How does Capella's light sensor differ from a traditional photodiode?

Capella's light sensor has an excellent spectrum close to real human eye responses. The light sensor has fluorescent light immunity, a shutdown mode function, infrared light rejection, and a built-in thermal sensor to compensate the temperature co-efficiency.
